You are the only voice in my life I have listened to regarding my 5 time over diagnosed ADHD. I am now 28 and am going through a massive change in how I think and operate. It seems I am evolving in the direction of creating increased communication among all people. I usally just view pictures all day in my mind and then dismiss them due to my school upbringing of it being disruptive. Now I have investors throwing money at me left and right to push on with my creativity. Why now? Why this one time listen to what I have to say? It almost makes me angry… I feel like I am broadband cable living in a dial up society. Once I learned how to awake from this path others forced me to be on is when I realized I am faster and brilliant. The communications technology I was speaking about is a license plate messaging network and social utility. Im working with a web 2.0 company to overhaul from the ground up. We wil be done in 2 weeks. Thank you for encouraging me to push on. ~Andy Couch Founder/CEO PlateStar, llc

loved the E-book , described me beautifully. Pity I didn’t get it before the neurotic stage. At least now I can do something.

Really enjoyed this piece! I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 7, and never had the tools to help me cope with learing differently until college. I’m seeking more help on finding information on how to use my brainstyle to help me. I use to believe ADD was a terrible thing and was looked down upon. I am so glad I was able to hear this lecture. Where can I find more of these types of lectures?
    Sincerely,

I loved the video. It gave me hope in my struggle with my 10 years old son who has ADHD and who is now fighting a huge battle at school for not getting good grades. Teachers want to reduce him the subjects but I fight all days telling them: Please, don’t do that. He may seem to be “less” but in fact he is “more”. I hope you’re right and I hope I’m right. Cheers from Portugal and please whatever you know in order to help me and my son, please fell free to say.

I have a 12 year old daughter who has been diagonosed with ADHD. I have so much to learn. I am trying to understand the way my daughter thinks. (not easy). She is absolutely beautiful, i am not sure she understands herself at all. Very happy girl not a care in the world. Not doing well at school but she is not concerned, it doesn’t seem to worry her. My husband and i try to be very clear with her so she understands us but i’m not sure she ever does. I would like to get the Davinci Method but not sure if she will get it. It may help my husband and i. Thanks for all information Garret, we have a long way to go. Regards, Robyn

perfect! the wording the descriptions, i’m only 19 and have been struggling with bipolar 1 disorder since i was a child, school districts labled me as specially educated until i raised awareness in my senior year of high school ,i wrote a research paper on how to live and succeed with bipolar and not just bipolar but the hardest of all bipolar 1 disorder. now.. i would hope that you know that there’s two types 1 and 2 and the only difference 1 is more severe than 2. and i had to fight for my highschool diploma and catch up on school for the years i goofed around being the class clown and i was doubled up 9th and 10th one year and 11th and 12th the next and because i wanted to prove everyone wrong i aced all four grades. Thank you and i’m glad that your educating people because i didn’t notice all my great gifts until someone opened my eyes.

I was diagnosed with high levels of ADHD in 2006. Then I was working with DHL Express Kenya as a courier and my performance was just out of this world, i.e. when driving, there was an extreme speed and effiency hits. We were working 14 hours a day and I did that for 18 months. One day I started getting visions and seeing things and signs and hearing alot of voices, Then I told God to confirm to me that I wasn’t crazy, and indeed I got amazing signs for me to leave that job. When I told my parents about it, they thought it was mental stress, but it wasn’t. From the age 12, I was put in Leadership roles for 11 years running,. In elementary school I was a school captain 2 years, then in high school for 4 years a top excecutive leader of a national school, and in university I became the class rep- of electrical engineering 5 years running. I have been getting so radical over everything and extremely aggresive. I have now fasted and prayed in camps for over 100 days just drinking fluids and trying to connect with God. Amazingly in those lonely times, I came up with mind blowing ideas that I plan to implement when one day I get into our government. I call the idea TRINITOCRACY. Its amazing. More to that I am a musician and I have a recording company called TEMPLE RECORDS, Compared to my age mates I think I am wiered but, I am encouraged that this is all for a purpose. Even Jesus, Saint Peter, Saint Paul among others people in the bible I think they had ADHD, CHRONIC. ENJOY.

It’s wonderful to hear words like “genius, gift” associated with ADHD.
My unusually imaginative 4 year old “thinks outside the box” very much and is extremely “willful”.
For now, he has to get through school so, he has a “disorder”, but wait……. I have one of the Greats in my care.
Thank you for reminding me where my focus should be.

  • 16. Helga  |  November 20th, 2008 at 8:30 am

I’ve just listened to your 16min segment on ADD linked to Genius, and I found it very interesting. I have a son who is 7 (who has ADD) how do I get him to look at himself in this positive light as apposed to being ’stupid/silly etc’?How do i explain this to a 7 year old (explain it to him in HIS language) so that he gets it? And stops seeing himself in such a negative light because he is different to most children in his class.

    Kind regards Helga

When I first downloaded your book I was so desperate for answers to why I’m like I am. My family life was suffering big time and I was so very unhappy trying to fit into a mold that just wasn’t me. After I read the book again I started understanding for the first time who I was and looked positivly at my life. I read parts out to my husband, who now gets it! To feel understood and supported is a wonderful freedom for me, things are just so much better all-round. Just after I read the book my shrink appointment came through, where I was diagonised with Rapid Cycle Biopolar, and told I would need medication (Mood stabalizing drugs) for life. My husband and I have discussed a three month trial to re-arrange our life-style to fit into my biopolar gift rather than sedate me. So my case will be reviewed in February09. Thank you so very much Garret for helping me to see the light!

  • 20. JAne King  |  November 20th, 2008 at 12:37 pm

I am completely fascinated by the simple fact of the timing of receiving this mail.I am a mother of 3 sons 18,16,15,the two oldest and myself have ADHD.I wont go into the long stories of struggle of knowing ADHD as a disorder, what’s relevant here, as I mentioned was the timing of this video.I am reading a book referred to me by a dear friend fighting breast cancer. The Book is The Power of Your Subconscious Mind written byJoseph Murphy, ironically this man was Minister and Director of a church in Los Angelos for 30 years. He describes how millions of people can achieve remarkable goals simply by changing the way they think.WHat I found most fascinating ,is he backs all of it w/ scriptures from the bible, but clearly is stating all the power for personal peace ,harmony, joy, health and abundance lies within ones subconscious, ie. the power of God and references all the greats as does Garrett who were successful in figuring out how.I have read all the same premises in the book, The Secret, I have just finished reading a book originally published in 1961, reiterating the same premises, and just now, again Garrett is stating it all again. In a very short period of time through random occurrances I have been presented the same info. regarding thepowers of the subconscious mind, I am truly excited, I dont believe in coincidences there is something to all this and I believe it is something a great importance. My eldest son especially has had the childhood from hell , being “disordered” and more importantly misunderstood by all the adults in his world, including his parents. But now that I am developing this new understanding, I feel as though somehow something should come out of all this. These young kids are critically in need of positive guidance to have these so-called great outcomes. The great tragdey that is not mentioned my Garrett is how many, especially young men who are battered througout childhood and not ever understood, or who havent been fortunate in good parents or economic means are the same population who fill the US prisons, b/c their genius was run a muck. All this so-called genius needs to be harnessed, and the label of DIS-ORDERED most critically needs to be dispelled.

Garrett, I dont believe there would be much money in it right off the bat, but would ever consider, a pragmatic approach or spreading your information to schools, where most damage is being done.IT would be a humanitarian approach, however, I believe what goes out for the greater good comes back ten-fold, its something to dream about and see where it takes you.Good Luck, you are bringing hope to 100’s of parents who are heart-wrenched watching the children suffer day in and day out in a world who doesnt understand them.

I came in hear you speak out side of Boston a few years ago, own a couple copies of the DaVinci Method.I know you have so much on the mark here. I am one of the 10 that know where you are coming from, however, My gutt reaction to the marketing of your thoughts as “The DAVINCI METHOD” to the other 9 out of 10 that really need the education, would never pick up the book.Unless you what to only target the rest of us out of box thinkers, then fine, but I dont believe you will reach the main stream “in the box thinkers” with that title. They are not open minded enough to go to a title that sounds too out there.
    Give it some thought.

All the Best in your endeavors you are doing great stuff!

    Best regards,
    JAne King

Thank you so so much!! This has opened my eyes. I suffer from ADD and for years I’ve thought that I wouldn’t amount to anything in life (and thanks to some of my school teachers telling me that) because of it.
I was put on Ritalin for most of my school career because I was unable to concentrate in class and I had no idea how to do or remember most of the work given to me. For years I thought that there was something wrong with me and that I was useless to society. At one stage, I even considered suicide.

Now through your lecturers and your work, I’m starting to realize that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with me, I just think differently to some people.
Once again Garret, thank you so much for this. I can finally live my life now.

Given the right proper medication i can safely say i like been a BP and i enjoy the positive sides of it as you mention we have developed inside our minds.
Been Bipolar is not being a monster but i thought at first i was. No one at work will never know because theyre ignorant at BP. But i am proud of being me. Btw, you have just described myself on a daily basis without missing anything! It’s uncanny!
    Thanks

I just finished listening to your segment on the Link Between Genius, ADD, ADHD etc. What a gift I have been granted! I am a single mother with ADHD although the HD part has somewhat diminished over the years…LOL…I also have 3 children that have been diagnosised with ADD-ADHD. For MANY years I’ve struggled with negative labels ie “slow learner”, “disruptive behavior” ,”uncooperative” “unorganized”, or statements like he/she can do it they just don’t want to. After my 3rd child was diagnosised with ADD the pediatrician said that it was unusual for a family to have THREE children with this ‘DISORDER’ there they go again tagging a negative label to my children! I thought wow! Why am I the lucky one that hit the ADD-ADHD jackpot? To say I’ve been fighting a losing battle for many years is an understatement! Although I have recognized the genius in my children from early on. It’s just that no one else seemed to acknowledge it until now! WOW what a gift you have given me by validating that my children are GIFTED and not inadequate in some way or disfunctional because they do not fit into societal “norms”. You have opened doors of opportunity that haven’t been there before. Instead of seeing us ADD-ADHD’ers as outsiders with “the problem” I see us as having special abilities that the majority doesn’t understand! NOW THAT’S POSITIVE! Instead of sitting around throwing a pity party about having THREE “problem” children I now see them as a blessing entrusted to me that pose a challenge! I like challenges!…sound familiar? I can’t wait to buy your book and I want to get one for my kids too! Thank you so much for the enlightenment! Gotta go… on a mission now :)

hey dude i was “diagnosed” with ADD in the 7th grade. they made take medication for my behavior problem. i always felt like i never had the problem it was always the teachers with the problem with me. when i got to high school my teachers either loved me or hated me because i was always a distraction. i hated taking my medication because it always made me drowsy so i hardly took it. i only listened to your 15 minute segment of your speech and most of the things you said i see the same thing going on inside my head. i think my little brother might also have it and now i really know it was never us with the problem. we just have a different way of thinking than everyone else. and the thing that you said about us using up our energy before going to do something boring i could see in my grades as well. i always did awesome in school during the wrestling season but before that i could never do my homework. i also day dream a lot. usually i just delete random messages i get on my email but since im so bored in iraq ive got nothing better to do than check them. so i thought it was kinda cool that i found this. all i can say is thanks dude for your research and letting people know “we” dont have the problem its everyone else with the problem

  • 26. P Crabtree  |  November 21st, 2008 at 12:50 am

I have two children, both with ADD…My struggle is with school.
WHY are these children treated like they have something wrong with them. I know what my children are capable of and I know they have to be taught differently..SO WHY DOESN”T THE EDUCATION SYSTEM KNOW THIS!!! I get so angry about this. More people have to be educated on ADHD. Why isn’t it talked about more on TV and the news. There has to be a better way for these children. The so called Doctors on TV that seem to know everything don’t talk about this.. How can we make life easier for these kids in school that feel and know they are different, and the school system makes them stand out like a sore thumb, which causes low self esteem in these children which can hinder them from being the bright kids that they really are. You should be an advocate for these kids, they need to be more understood and no one stands up for them. My son was labled with a learning diability because he does not read at grade level, but he rode a 2 wheeler at the age of 4, and mowed my grass at 4, and changed my nieces brakes on her car at the age of 8, told me what was wrong with the snow blower at the age of 3, said mom check to see if it has gas…..WELL IT WAS OUT OF GAS, he was right. My daughter never had a piano lesson and can play the piano, and violin, and guitar…Has a true ear for music, but finds classroom work BORING and spaces out in class.. These kids need to be understood for what it is and not DISABILITIES…..

    Hello,

    Re: Jane Kings message.

Well really I have to say good for you. I can’t say enough that I came to the sad understanding long ago about my so called ADHD children. I have tried and tried to help others understand that it is something to embrace.
I think soon we will be calling people with ADHD highly intelligent battered people (HI-BP). Educational institutions are rife with individuals that are needy to make life difficult for talented people whom they can’t claim as their own little product. ADHD people are already talented so there’s no brownie points to give out. To be honest I was at first blinded to the lack of care for children in the system with ADHD. The peer pressure, tall poppy syndrome from both parents and peers. AND the hypervigelent adults who blame them for things they are hardly capable of doing.
It makes me really cross to think that the label is meant to give understanding but instead causes a whole mess of behaviour problems toward the ADHD individual. “WHO IS THE ADULT HERE’ i have to ask myself.
You are quite right Jane, there is no open mindedness and a culture that has branded people with behavioual disorder based on commensence belief rather than factual evidenance is very difficult to penetrate and change.
I feel most people with ADHD do extraordinarily well outside of school especially as they have experienced being in the box while being out of the box.
Its a really big challenge to make change. If I’d have known the effects of the stigma attached to children with the label I would have demanded that the doctor tick the genius box instead.
I am going to do my absolute best to make a difference to these people.
Well done Garrett your actually doing it!!

    Thank you, Garret. Great Lecture.

I have 6 years old son diagnosed for ADHD since he was 4 y.o. He wont consentrate in school, talks in classes, disturb others, thats why teacher almost every day asks him to leave the classroom, as she can’t control him. My son gets sad to sit alone in the hall and says that he just wanted to tell her smth from his own life and what he has experienced. And she’s not willing to listen. At home when we do homework he’s just great doing tasks (when they’re interesting for him) and homework. He is a very good at creating and constructing, as well.

He makes a lot of great things using Lego (as we live in Denmark, the homeland of LEGO), such as buildings, spaceships, planes, helicopters (and believe me, it is all made with so much attention and care of thousands of details, as I wouldn’t even imagine paying attention to such minor details, to him it all matters). He has a lot of patience for that but not so much in studies and classwork.

Please if someone knows what I should do please guide me.
    Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Tatiana Andersen

I can’t agree more…..I still think in pictures….daily. I am also addicted to sleep, because of the images/stores I invent. However, I am medicated on Sodium Valproate, haloperidol and sertraline. I am totally stable, having been so for ten years. I now want to write a book. Thanks for instilling in me that “being bi-polar is somewhat of a gift”! LOL and thanks.

  • 32. mike  |  November 21st, 2008 at 11:07 pm

wow. This opens new potentials. It’s been the round peg and the square hole most of my life. Very smart, in my own way and have achieved through some of your content exactly what you are saying. It is too bad as society still recoils and cast out us heratics as they sense we are different but can’t quite get it.

The intelligence level is there but it feels uncomfortable as sometimes my intensity and passion is elevated, they might be saying inside huh? For one that has reallistically a grade 8 education I have found myself in uncharted corporate waters and navigated them with uncanny instinct. Made a good income to boot as money may I think be one of my stimulus deals.

Keep it up as this is good and timely.

From a 53 year old that has for whatever reason survived where may may not have.

  • 33. bev emmott  |  November 22nd, 2008 at 12:02 am

Hey Garrett I cried when I listened to that. All the people who called me dumb by saying I did not know what to do ir how to do it. Listening to this is like turning on a light. Someone understands. Maybe this is what has led me to be hounded by the churches and others. Maybe I will end up being a left handed person since the left side of the body is controlled by the right side of the brain so only left handed people are in their right minds. Yea I will fly above this world, have out of body experiences, jump into the future before I leave the past but I need someone with me to help me do this. Maybe I will ended up sending the world spinning into space or just go make the pokies sing, I dont give a dam if the others understand or not. I think I have already set somepeoples world turning.

    Thank you

    Cheers Bev

  • 34. Ken Jensen  |  November 22nd, 2008 at 1:02 am

I’ve been a big fan of yours since I first read “The Davinci Method.” I had just learned how to overcome my bipolar without meds, as they were killing me, literally, and I was doing quite well when I found your book.

I had been pretty pleased with myself up to that point, for all I’d learned and how well my health had improved both physically and mentally. I felt cocky enough to think I’d figured out the bulk of all there was to know about turning off my bipolar and turning on my good health. Your book blew me away. As good as I felt, I felt much better after reading what you wrote.

I told my parents that it was as if this man interviewed me personally to write his book, minus the details.

I’ve since written my own book and your book is referenced within. I frequently send folks your way. Your words rocked my world for the better and I get great satisfaction from sending my people to you. The world needs more of your help.

  • 36. Onyinye  |  November 22nd, 2008 at 2:04 pm

I was diagnosed to be bipolar a year ago, just after my university education. My father revealed that I was a davinci shortly afterwards. I think he had only just found out that he was one too. Now he encourages me to follow my impulses though sometimes he thinks I take on high risk projects. I am still trying to discern my true calling but I know that in due course things would be clearer. Thank you for this opportunity to be able to understand who I am and know that there are many others like me.

    Hi Claudette,

Yes, the book is available as a physical book too. It’s also available as an audiobook. You can get copies at http://www.DaVinciMethod.com

This is an interesting presentation, and challenges every thinking about this disorder. I think the ADDH has been misunderstood for a long time. With this current knowledge, one thing must change in order to fix the problem. The culptrit here is the school system and approach to education. The students should not be expected to sit for 45 to 60 minutes in a classroom listening to the teacher. Time is now to look at the systems that we have. These individuals are forced to think like everyone else, but this is not practical for them. Let us change the system.

  • 41. julie burgess  |  November 29th, 2008 at 4:56 am

excellante’. Any information on these subjects are so helpful to not only we that are affected but for those who do not understand, as well as those who refuse to understand…
    thankyou!!!

  • 42. Steven M.  |  December 17th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

I would love to have a transcript of this to show the teachers, the school administrators, the school boards, and anyone else connected with the school system that you don’t have to be a “blithering idiot” to have a learning disorder. That you can have ADHD/LD and be a Genius (in certain areas). Something that the educational system seems to lack in understanding or progressing their teaching methods.
