The pull between your children and your purpose out in the world …

Garret,

I have just recently bought your book and am a few chapters in. It’s great, I find it very inspiring and motivating. It’s nice to know that this fire I feel inside can be put to good use. I know this internal energy I have always had will be of good use to the world. It’s just trying to find that outlet to let yourself shine. I guess I haven’t found my niche just yet but I’m sure it will come (I’m only 34). Believe me though my life so far has been great, yes ups and downs, but all in all great. My energy is being used for my gorgeous three children who are all very active. I realize one of my purposes was for me to have the children I have but I also think there’s more. Anyways enough about me. I just was going to compliment you on a great book (so far) and a brilliant web movie. It’s seriously amazing and inspiring.

Sincerely, Reese

Thank you, Reese.

You are doing AWESOME if you already have three gorgeous children by age 34. Celebrate that accomplishment, for that is a mighty one indeed!

I know what it’s like to feel that pull between your devotion to your children and your need to express yourself out in the world. The key here is balance and patience. Your children are your greatest teachers right now. They are helping you learn what it is you’ll need for your next purpose. Enjoy your children and relish in their beauty, because their beauty will inspire you to discover all your greatest outlets. It is the love you have for your babies that really makes you shine. And then when you are ready, you will have all that brilliant light and love, that your children are showing you right now, to pour into your next calling.

Enjoy those little teachers of yours,
Garret

trusting your soul’s joy

Hello Garret!!! My name is Sam and I live in San Juan, PR. I write because I need some guidence. For the past year and a half I have been studying for a bachelor in teaching. Scince I was little, I honestly believed, and use to say to my parents that I was ment to do a great thing in this world and that I was going to make a difference, “you’ll see” I used to say. I also used to say that I was going to be a famous singer, for I love music and it makes my soul happy (as it does many other peolple in the world). Singing makes me complete, I realy feel i am doing something.

When I got into college I began my studies in music, but that went no where. I stoped believing in my self. So, I decided to become a techer. I thought to my self “what better way to make a difference?” and I believed it, still do. But I do not want to fight for it.

Now I have the chance to do music, it always comes back to me. Just when I stop, it always comes back looking for me. People believe in me, and they work with me, they look for me and I even don’t know why. Some how this opportunity come knocking in my life again and again.

I feel like I am waisting my time in college, that the only reason I am doing this is to have a second plan, because my dad wants me to have a bachelors and to have someting secure for my future. But I’m going to be unhappy. This is not what I wish to do.

I have been struggeling to believe in my self. I start anything and anything around and I leave it. I never finish what I start, BECAUSE I stop believing in me, in my ideas, in what I have. I don’t even believe in those who believe in me.

Garret, I don’t want to waste my life. I don’t want to continue in school. I need to release my fear, Garret. I need to stop thinking big and start thinking in the small steps to take … then the big reward will come. Right?.

You see I know all this. Somehow I do (sometimes I know things that I did not even know I know). Help!

Thanks. Greetings from the Caribbean and all the best of succes with your ideas.

Sam

Follow your heart, and realize you will be tested on your devotion. You know you want to be a singer. You know you can be a teacher. If you were the hero of a movie, what would you want to see you do? What would you tell you (the hero) to do?

If you choose what your heart wants you embark on your persoanl “Hero’s Journey.” Things may become very difficult for you on this journey, but deep down you will feel the joy and elation of trusting your soul’s joy. If you choose what you have been told all your life is the “responsible” choice, then you will feel comfortably numb. How do you want to spend your life, comfortable and numb or challenged and alive?

Right now, it sounds like you do not have any children or difficult responsibilities. That means you are completely liberated to do whatever you want to do with no guilt.

Have you read my book? In it there is a speech in my book by Steve Jobs that speaks to your exact situation. He chose the road less traveled. He dropped out of school and did “irresponsible” things that lead him to becoming one of the most successful people in the world.

You have also stumbled across the power of ‘journaling’. That is, when you write and write about what is troubling you; while you write the answers appear. Keep up with that process if you want to gain more and more clarity.

Rock on,
Garret

How do 10% of people have the DaVinci personality?

Can you source the stat saying that 10% of people have the DaVinci personality?
Thanks,
Stacy

The 10% of people have the DaVinci personality is a conservative estimate based on the entire world population. This estimate is much higher in the U.S., probably closer to 25%.

In a recent Mayo Clinic study, the lowest and most conservative estimate was that ADHD had an occurrence rate of 7.5%. There is a well established connection between the gene DRD4 7R and ADHD. The DRD4 7R has a global occurrence rate of about 20%. We presume this gene is not active in all of its carriers and thus put forth a conservative estimate that 10% of the world population has an activated DRD4 R7 gene which leads to an impulsive (creative), risk-taking, sensation seeking (distractible), disposition. We call this disposition the “DaVinci” temperament.

What is also interesting to note is that the U.S. population has been shown to have a much higher rate of the genetic DRD4 7R occurrence at 48.3%! That means that in America, 25% of the population is likely to have some form of the DaVinci temperament trait. Meanwhile there can be places in the U.S. with abnormally high concentrations of this DaVinci trait. USA Today reported a certain school district in Virginias had 63% of its students diagnosed ADHD.

A 2002 Mayo Clinic study found that the lowest and most conservative estimate of AD/HD occurrence among the study subjects was 7.5 percent by age 19, based on research criteria for AD/HD.

“Association of the 7-repeat allele of the D4 dopamine receptor (DRD4) exon 3 polymorphism with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder is well-established.” Neuropsychopharmacol Hung. 2005 Sep;7(3):125-31.

“DRD4 [is] significantly associated to ADHD according to the present meta-analysis, confirming previous ones.”

Meta-analysis of candidate genes in attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
CHU Robert-Debre (AP-HP, Paris VII), 75019 Paris.

The gene DRD4 7R allele has been shown to lead to impulsiveness, sensation seeking (distractibility), and risk-taking behavior. This gene’s frequency has been said to “differ considerably among … different populations.” The 7-repeat allele had a global mean = 20.6%, appearing quite frequently in the Americas (mean frequency = 48.3%) but only occasionally in East and South Asia (mean frequency = 1.9%).
